● Responsible for routine metallurgical and physical analysis and laboratory testing of submitted or self-collected samples of materials used in products and manufacturing processes. Make decisions within the limits of general standards or procedures. Works without continual supervision and can re-prioritize according to established guidelines. Occasionally instructs or assigns work to support personnel.
• Prepares samples for evaluation including cutting, grinding, and polishing material using laboratory equipment.
• Conducts appropriate chemical, metallurgical, and physical tests of process or production material with the use of precision laboratory equipment.
• Approves material meeting established criteria and reports exceptions.
• Maintains complete and accurate test records.
• Adjusts technical processes based on test results.
• Frequent contacts with others outside the work group.
• Assists with problem solving on manufacturability problems as they relate to physical, metallurgical, or chemical matters.
• Ability to perform light maintenance on laboratory equipment (examples listed below) and maintains laboratory supplies which are currently available in the work area and through GM (Shop Supply), change a band saw blade, change a cut off saw blade, refill coolant tanks
• Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards and continuously improves standardized work.
• Inputs raw information into results database and provides analysis.
• Provides written reports of analysis.
• Interacts with various manufacturing database systems.
• Flexibility to work any shift and weekends.
Qualifications
• 5+ year of related lab experience and/or entry level Bachelor’s degree in a Technical/Sciences-related area
• Knowledge of materials, substances, and their characteristics
• Oral and written communication skills
• Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
• Analytical ability where problems are somewhat complex
• Basic MS office skills
• Areas of expertise include: Quality, Testing, and Automotive systems
